On May 14, 2026, the U.S. Department of Energy announced the awardees of $94 million in funding to spur the deployment of advanced light-water small modular reactors (SMRs). The funding for the eight companies selected through the Generation III+ SMR Pathway to Deployment Program will support nuclear licensing, supply chain, and site preparation, streamlining the path to new nuclear. Detailed below are the companies selected, along with their awards:

      • Obtain early site permit from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for a location in New York.
    • Nebraska Public Power District, $27,864,860:
      • Obtain early site permit from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for a location in Nebraska.
  • SMR Supply Chain Development:
    • BWXT Nuclear Energy, Inc., $21,423,305:
      • Support assembly and manufacturing facility in Indiana. 
    • Container Technologies Industries, LLC, $547,900: 
      • Support steel production in Tennessee. 
    • Framatome U.S. Government Solutions, LLC, $8,800,000:
      • Expand fuel fabrication facility in Washington.
    • Global Nuclear Fuel Americas, LLC, $3,000,000:
      • Support manufacturing facility in North Carolina.
    • American Forgemasters Company, $2,900,000:
      • Support production of large component forgings in Pennsylvania.
    • Scot Forge Company, $12,267,000:
      • Procure equipment to support production and manufacturing of large components in Illinois.
