On February 23, 2026, the Colorado Energy Office (CEO) published the first statewide Model Green Code.  This code addresses building attributes such as energy and water use efficiency, electrification, low carbon building materials, and other strategies to reduce the carbon footprint of new buildings. Local governments may voluntarily adopt this code in addition to the required energy code. CEO is hosting a webinar to share information on the Model Green Code on March 9 at 2:00 p.m. MT.

In addition, on February 25, 2026, CEO announced $7.2 million in grants to support cost-effective emission reductions across Colorado’s large buildings. These awards, issued through the Large Building Decarbonization (LBD) Showcase Grant Program, will help 15 building owners whose buildings currently comply with Building Performance Colorado (BPC) scale up or develop high-impact decarbonization solutions. Specifically, this first round of funding will support 10 high-level planning projects and five major implementation retrofits. The full press release can be viewed here
