In January 2026, Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe issued an executive order establishing the Missouri Advanced Nuclear Energy Task Force. The Task Force will include representatives from the state legislature, Department of Natural Resources, Department of Economic Development, Public Service Commission, various utilities, a non-profit organization, higher education institutions, and the agricultural industry. The State Energy Office will provide research and data analysis support. The Task Force will work on (1) implementing recommendations from the new State Energy Plan; (2) identifying public-private partnership opportunities; (3) addressing workforce considerations; (4) exploring partnerships with federal agencies to reduce permitting delays and increase access to financing mechanisms; and (5) providing recommendations to the Governor on different reactor technologies, policy trends, companies interested in working in the state, spent fuel, and legislative and regulatory reforms. This information will be captured in a report due by December 1.
