Sprint to Savings Energy Reduction Competition

Program Type: STEM Education
Program Description: The Sprint to Savings Program is designed to catalyze energy savings in DC Schools while providing educational and real-world experience to students. The competition, created by the Department of General Services, is a partnership between the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the DC Government to help the DC Public Schools system reduce energy waste and cut annual utility bill costs for use toward faculty and staff salaries, computers, text books and educational tools for students. Reducing energy demand reduces greenhouse gas production from fossil fuel combustion for excess electricity generation, thereby lowering air pollution and other harmful environmental impacts. Furthermore, participation in the competition introduces students to real-world career experiences and opportunities to build leadership skills.
