Illinois Reveals First Round of State Energy Roadmap Analysis

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) recently released the Illinois Energy Roadmap, which seeks to complete a rigorous evaluation of the state's progress in achieving its existing energy policy goals.

In a state mired by a protracted budget crisis and increasingly polarized politics, it may seem difficult for Illinois state agencies like the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) to focus on much else. However, energy policy remains an elevated issue in Illinois, particularly after the late February release of the first report of the Illinois Energy Roadmap. The Roadmap, a project funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and spearheaded by DCEO, seeks to complete a rigorous evaluation Illinois' progress in achieving its existing energy policy goals through electricity system modeling, cross-agency coordination, and a robust stakeholder engagement process.
