DOE's Building Energy Codes Program Releases Report, “Achieving Energy Savings and Emission Reductions from Building Energy Codes: A Primer for State Planning.”

The Building Energy Codes Program of the Department of Energy recently released a new report, “Achieving Energy Savings and Emission Reductions from Building Energy Codes: A Primer for State Planning.”   The report is aimed at helping air quality regulators, utilities, state energy planners and others better understand how energy codes can support multiple objectives of saving energy and reducing emissions as part of a portfolio of energy efficiency options. The report succinctly describes the roles of states and localities regarding building energy codes, provides some exemplary cases, discusses potential code-related energy savings as well as providing a basic methodology for estimating savings, and lists available tools and resources.
