On June 20, 2025, the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) announced $5 million in grant awards through its 2025 Resilient Maryland Program—a statewide initiative that supports the planning, design, and construction of distributed energy resource (DER) systems. These systems included microgrids, resilient facility power systems, and resiliency hubs that enhance community preparedness and energy reliability for extreme weather events, and other emergency situations.
“We are frequently reminded that our infrastructure is under extreme stress. These Resilient Maryland grants will enable a wide variety of Marylanders to better stand up to extreme weather, disasters and emergency situations,” said MEA Director Paul Pinsky.
The program provides funding through three district Areas of Interest (AOIs):
- AOI 1: Preconstruction Planning – supports feasibility studies and other early-stage activities necessary to plan and design microgrids, resilient facility power systems, and resiliency hubs.
- Awardees include community development groups, nonprofits, utilities, local governments, and community centers to support pre-construction planning activities.
- AOI 2: Capital Support – covers equipment and installation costs for deploying microgrids, resilient power systems, and resilient combined heat and power systems.
- Awardees include Howard County government, a mixed-income multifamily housing community, and AlphaStruxure, an energy-as-a-service provider. Notably, AlphaStruxure’s award will fund a microgrid that will power an electric school bus depot and associated charging infrastructure for Prince George’s County Schools.
- AOI 3: Resiliency Hubs – Funds the installation of solar and battery energy storage systems that serve as community-based resiliency hubs.
- The sole awardee for AOI 3 is Enterprise Community Development Inc., a nonprofit affordable housing developer, who will receive funding to deploy solar and battery storage systems across five low-to-moderate income multifamily housing communities in Maryland.
Applications for the next round of MEA’s Resilient Maryland Grant Program for FY 2026 are expected to open this fall. Please visit: https://energy.maryland.gov/business/pages/ResilientMaryland.aspx for more information.
