In June 2025, the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) announced 12 awardees for its new Electrifying Community Buildings Grant Program. The program was established through a one-time allocation of $50 million from Governor Wes Moore’s Fiscal Year 2025 (FY2025) budget to implement Maryland’s Climate Solutions Now Act of 2022. This multi-year program will fund electrification efforts in community-serving facilities, including community centers, medical facilities, and places of worship.

The program has awarded a total of $6.78 million for projects that will collectively reduce 1,273 metric tons of carbon dioxide every year. Several projects will upgrade building HVAC equipment to high-efficiency air source and ground source heat pumps, variable refrigerant flow systems, and other electrified equipment. The program also funded supportive measures to enable the installation of new electrified equipment, such as roof replacements and electric panel upgrades. A full list of awardees for FY2025 can be found in this press release. The Electrifying Community Buildings Grant Program expects to open applications for its FY2026 program by Fall of 2025 and will announce program updates through the MEA website and via email.
