Schneider Electric Opens New Data Center and Microgrid Testing Labs

Source: NASEO

Schneider Electric, a NASEO Affiliate member, unveiled new data center and microgrid research laboratories in February 2025, both based in Andover, Massachusetts. The data center laboratory features high-voltage testing environments and 3D-printing stations for power distribution units (PDUs), devices that control electrical power flow to data centers and can be programmed for remote monitoring and controls. The microgrid laboratory houses simulators that replicate the power demand of 300 homes and power supply of 110 residential solar installations. Within this testbed, researchers study various microgrid components and system combinations, including on-site renewables, backup generators, battery energy storage systems, and managed EV charging, and their performance in real world conditions. These robust new testing environments will enable Schneider Electric to develop innovative and energy-optimizing data center designs and microgrid solutions for residential, industrial, municipal, and business applications.
