NASEO is pleased to report that U.S. House and Senate Appropriators have reached agreement on the FY'20 (current fiscal year) funding for federal energy programs. The package includes $62.5 million for the U.S. State Energy Program (SEP), up from $55 million in FY'19; and $305 million for the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), up from $257 million in FY'19. Other high-level program funding levels across the U.S. Department of Energy also saw increases. Following is a brief summary.
Department of Energy - Provides $38.586 billion for the Department, an increase of $2.9 billion above the fiscal year 2019 level and $7 billion above the budget request:
• Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy - Provides $2.79 billion, an increase of $411 million above the fiscal year 2019 level and $2.5 billion above the request.
• Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response - Provides $156 million, an increase of $36 million above the fiscal year 2019 level.
• Electricity - Provides $190 million, an increase of $34 million above the fiscal year 2019 level and $7.5 million above the request.
• Nuclear Energy - Provides $1.49 billion, an increase of $167 million above the fiscal year 2019 level and $669 million above the request.
• Fossil Energy Research and Development - Provides $750 million, $188 million above the request.
• Science - Provides $7 billion, an increase of $415 million above the fiscal year 2019 level and $1.5 billion above the request.
• Advanced Research Projects Agency - Energy - Provides $425 million, an increase of $59 million above the fiscal year 2019.
Details of the final bill will be discussed on NASEO's Government Affairs Committee call tomorrow, December 17 at 2:00 p.m. ET.
