NASEO Transportation Committee Call: RFS and RINs

The NASEO Transportation Committee held a call on Wednesday, August 29 at 4pm ET to discuss Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs) and implications for alternative transportation. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency uses RINs to monitor compliance with the Renewable Fuel Standard by tracking the amount of renewable fuel obligated parties sell; obligated parties may also sell excess RINs to parties that have not purchased sufficient renewable fuels to meet its RFS requirement. On our call, Geoff Cooper from RFA provided an overview of the RINs market, touching on how RIN prices are determined and traded, how industry builds RINs into their cost-benefit analysis, and implications for alternative transportation.
