NASEO Input on U.S. Senate Disaster Recovery Reform Act

On July 23, 2018, NASEO sent a letter to the leadership of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, and the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs concerning S. 3041, the Disaster Recovery Reform Act of 2018.  The letter stresses the importance of utilizing modern, model building codes in construction and reconstruction in order to save lives, protect homes, and return businesses to normal operation more quickly.  The letter points out the role of building codes in reducing the need for federal disaster assistance over the long term, as well as the value of considering resilience as a pat of FEMA’s pre-disaster mitigation grants to states and local governments.  More information on the status of S. 3041 is available from NASEO and will be discussed on the August NASEO Government Affairs conference call.
