To support State and Territory Energy Offices interested in engaging and partnering with Tribal Nations, NASEO has launched a Working Group on Tribal Coordination whose objectives are to: 1) increase understanding of state and federal initiatives and activities supporting tribal energy priorities; 2) offer best practice guidance for State Energy Offices interested in engaging and coordinating with tribal partners; and 3) highlight opportunities for State Energy Offices to support tribal energy improvements.
This month's Working Group meeting will feature a presentation from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) on Tribal Sovereignty and what it means for Tribal-state coordination. NREL researchers will share key components of Tribal Sovereignty, including how sovereignty was established, how it is upheld, what it means for working with state governments, and how Tribal members think about energy sovereignty, specifically. Attendees will also have an opportunity to share feedback on additional Tribal energy topics of interest and help inform future NREL workshops (one in Colorado in October 2025 and a second in D.C. in November 2025) as well as topical webinars in early 2026.
Please register for the meeting here and reach out to Arvand Golbazi (agolbazi@naseo.org) with any questions.
