NASEO Wildfire Forum Webinar Series: Assessing the Unique Factors of Wildfire Risk

April 8, 2025, 3:00 - 4:30 PM ET
Webinar/Virtual Meeting

NASEO, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (DOE CESER), will host quarterly wildfire forums for State and Territory Energy Offices and State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial (SLTT) partners.

These forums will feature presentations from subject matter experts and discussions with states to explore best practices and guidance with those facing emerging wildfire threats. The forums will enable State Energy Offices to proactively address wildfire risks, develop response capabilities, and engage partners for collective preparedness.

The first webinar will explore the unique factors that contribute to wildfire risk, and will highlight how wildfire risk assessment differs from other natural hazards. Speakers will provide insights into how the energy sector evaluates wildfire risks to their systems, where meaningful data can be collected and how it can be analyzed, and the critical role State Energy Offices play in leveraging information to support mitigation efforts.

Future webinars will cover topics such as long-term risk assessment tools, state wildfire legislation and policy, shifts in the insurance landscape and utility liability, advancements in wildfire mitigation technology, and strategies for building and sustaining response partnerships.
