During this roundtable session, each State Energy Office will share major energy policy, program, and priority actions and issues in their state. The items should include energy policy and program actions covered by your office, as well as other state policy and energy market trends that you consider significant. The discussion will help inform your colleagues and facilitate potential coordination among states. An expected outcome will be the identification of specific ways in which peers throughout the region can work together to resolve issues, share best practices, or take advantage of new energy opportunities.

Utilities and industry are upgrading infrastructure and introducing new technologies to create a modern, resilient grid of the future. This session will explore transmission and distribution considerations and how industry is defining grid modernization, and will examine how states are shaping policies to move projects forward.

Enhancing Resilience: Cybersecurity and Regional Coordination
Grid resilience is a top priority for energy policy makers across the country, particularly as threats from natural disasters and cyber attacks become more prevalent. This session will provide an overview of emerging cybersecurity threats and will highlight state inititiaves to enhance cybersecurity.  State Energy Offices will also engage in a discussion on how they can better coordinate activities across state lines.

Rural communities face unique energy challenges, and are often unaware of state-level programs that may help them affordably achieve their energy goals. This session will explore energy challenges faced by rural areas of the Midwest, and will examine steps that states can take to ensure that rural communities are able to take advantage of programs offered by State Energy Offices.

Improving the Efficiency and Resilience of Water Treatment and Conveyance Systems
Aging water infrastructure systems in the Midwest provide states with opportunities to improve both energy and water efficiency and incorporate renewables into their operations. However, improving these systems is challenging
due to the limited funds available for upgrades and other factors. This session will explore ways that State Energy Offices can help water treatment and conveyance systems improve efficiency and become more resilient.
