Andrew L. Ott will become PJM Interconnection’s new president and CEO later this year, the PJM Board of Managers announced recently. Ott presently is PJM’s executive vice president of Markets. Current PJM CEO Terry Boston had announced his plans to retire on Dec. 31, 2015.
PJM Board Chairman Howard Schneider said, “Andy is recognized internationally as a power industry leader and expert, and he will be an outstanding CEO for PJM and its stakeholders. The Board and I are confident that Andy will ensure the continued collaboration, trust and exceptional performance for which PJM is known and that he shares our commitment to reliable grid operations, fair and efficient wholesale markets and robust transmission planning.”
Ott will assume his new post later this year following a transition period. During that time he will work closely with Boston and meet with PJM stakeholders including members, state and federal regulators, employees and industry leaders.

An 18-year veteran with PJM, Ott has extensive experience in energy market restructuring, including electricity market design, operations, power-system engineering and system planning.
In his position as executive vice president he is responsible for executive oversight of the PJM Market Operations, Market Strategy, Member Training, State Relations, Customer Relations and Performance Compliance divisions. He was responsible for implementation of the PJM wholesale electricity markets including the PJM Locational Marginal Pricing, Financial Transmission Rights, Day-Ahead Energy Market and Capacity Market systems. He also serves as a board member for PJM Technologies and PJM Environmental Information Services.
Ott serves on the board of directors of the Association of Power Exchanges. He is chair of CIGRE (International Council on Large Electric Systems) Study Committee C5 on Electricity Markets and Regulation and serves on the CIGRE Technical Committee.
Prior to joining PJM, Ott was employed by GPU, Inc. in transmission planning and operations.
He received a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Science in applied statistics from Villanova University. Ott is an IEEE Fellow.
