DOE Releases Report on Electricity Disruption Response Capabilities

On May 30, the U.S. Department of Energy released its assessment of the potential scope and duration of a prolonged power outage from a major cyber-attack and evaluation of the readiness and gaps in the nations’ ability to manage and mitigate consequences of an attack against the electric subsector. This assessment was performed in partnership with other federal agencies and industry stakeholders as required by Section (e) of Executive Order 13800 on “Strengthening the Cybersecurity of Federal Networks and Critical Infrastructure” which was issued one year ago by the President.
